Zombie Lore & RP Guide Empty Zombie Lore & RP Guide

TLDR:

HUMAN REANIMATION SYNDROME

BASIC INFORMATION

-The cause of Human Reanimation Syndrome is unknown. Some have speculated it to be an airborne virus of some kind.

-There is no cure or vaccine, nor will there be one in the foreseeable future.

-Human Reanimation Syndrome is a global phenomenon that affects every known human. It possesses no "symptoms" as long as an individual remains alive.

-Human Reanimation Syndrome causes all recently deceased corpses to reanimate, unless the corpse in question has a damaged cerebrum or severe head trauma.

-After reanimation, the 'undead' individual will immediately begin generating microbial toxins in their saliva, blood and other bodily fluids. These microbial toxins can be referred to as 'necrotic poison.'

-Any undead bite or fluid contact with a living person's mucous membranes will cause necrotic poisoning, which has so far proven to be 100% fatal. Depending on the person's physical health, it may take anywhere from two hours to an entire day for the person to die. There is no cure.

-An individual afflicted by a necrotic poisoning will notice the spread of gangrene around the wound (if there is a wound), and experience a fever within a few hours. Signs to look for are excessively pale skin, bloodshot eyes, and vomit containing blood. If the individual survives ten or more hours, they will be very physically weak, sweaty and agitated. The victim will also often be confused and/or delusional. The final stage of necrotic poisoning is a coma, followed by death.

-Conventional antibiotics have the ability to slow the effects of necrotic poisoning, but never indefinitely.

ZOMBIES

All zombies can only be killed via brain destruction. They cannot be poisoned, killed with chemicals, drowned, etc.

Stage 1 (Fresh)
Fresh zombies are identifiable by a mostly-human appearance, though they often have a bloodless complexion and milky white eyes. Depending on their wounds, freshly-reanimated individuals have the ability to move at a fast pace, sometimes even up to running speeds. They possess superior motor skills and coordination, with some having the ability to open doorknobs and climb ladders. They can be audibly distinguished by snarling and growling.

Stage 2 (Initial Decomposition)
Zombies that have been reanimated for about a week will begin to undergo the beginning stages of decomposition. Their wounds will start to fill with pus and fungal patches, and they may appear bloated/swollen by excess acid/gasses. Zombies are generally slowed to a lurching shamble at this point, and emit a horrendous odor. This stage is the most dangerous when it comes to infection via fluids, mainly due to the bursting of sores/vomiting. They can be audibly distinguished by deep, burbling sounds.

Stage 3 (Advanced Decomposition)
Zombies reach this state after around a month. Their skin will appear thin and stretched, and their wounds will be greenish and dry. Their clothing will generally be in tatters by this point. These zombies only move at a walking pace. At this point, their blood has coagulated into a thick, gel-like substance. They are somewhat safer to dispatch at close range due to the fact that this blood is unlikely to splatter, and zombies in advanced stages of decomposition are unlikely to spit blood or vomit, unlike Stage 2. They can be audibly distinguished by deep, guttural moans.

ROLEPLAYING AS A ZOMBIE

When roleplaying as a zombie, keep in mind of the stages when creating a description. Do not have a memey or incredibly generic description. When it comes to naming, give your character some kind of identifier on what stage they are. If you want to play a runner, names like 'Fresh Turned', 'New Reanimate', 'Recent Infected', etc. all work, though you can make up your own. If you want to be a puker/initial decomposition zombie, names like 'Putrefying Corpse', 'Pus Zombie', things along those lines. For Stage 3, mainly describe rot, desiccation, and age- and remember to keep it slow in terms of movements.

Go off the above stage descriptions when it comes to roleplaying as a zombie. In a nutshell, though...

STAGE 1: You can sprint OOCly, open doors, climb ladders, and extremely simple tasks. Players might get infected by blood platters.

STAGE 2: You can puke blood, fluids are a common way of infecting. You will be slow, but not always as slow as a Stage 3. Fast shamble.

STAGE 3: You can't sprint or puke, just shamble. Most NPCs are this.

INFECTION CHANCE ROLLING

Standard rolls are used, without stats.

SCRATCH: 1-10 = Infection

FLUID: 1-25 = Infection Involves getting blood or puke on/near the face. If the human player does not RP wiping it off or cleaning themselves, the infection chance may go up.

BITE: 100% Infection chance! Do not try to bite unless you've actually grappled onto a player, and are close enough to an exposed part of their body to do so. Just going "/me attempts to bite his shoulder" right off the bat is unfair if you're going for a roll-heavy combat session because you're immediately going for a PKing move. If the session is more P2L, it's a useless /me because they're obviously going to evade it. Initially, try to grapple or claw. Attempt to bite if they're vulnerable or being negligent when it comes to getting near your mouth.
